Cricket balls consist of a hard cork core wound with string for reinforcement and to turn it into a spherical shape. Four pieces of leather cover the ball and are stitched together along the "equator". The leather is dyed and given several coatings of polish.
Cricket stumps are usually made of wood, often ash, which is a pale cream or light brown colour. The advantages of using ash wood are that it is tough and flexible. The straightest and cleanest wood is selected for cricket stumps.
