The key components of a skateboard are the deck, trucks and wheels.
The deck is the flat wooden board that the rider stands on. The trucks are located underneath the deck to attach the wheels to the deck.
The wheels determine the speed and smoothness of the ride. Larger wheels are smoother and therefore better suited for cruiser boards, whereas smaller wheels are used for trick boards and for doing tight turns. Softer wheels are ideal for street skating as they are slower with better grip, while harder wheels are faster and will suit smooth surfaces like skate parks.
